King Sports Max Website Design & Development
OVERVIEW
King Sports Max has been manufacturing their own e-bikes, e-scooters, hoverboards, and their accessories for a few years and selling their products as a white label distributor, but in 2018, they decided to create an e-commerce site of their own and sell their product under their own brand. This was a big change from their previous business model, but knowing that they had the support of the SPINX Digital team to deliver the online infrastructure needed to successfully launch an e-commerce business, they were excited about the challenge. That said, we quickly found out that the challenge was on us since they needed a fully operational e-commerce website with custom designs within 2-months.
With their mission in mind, we began conceptualizing ways that we could incorporate nature and the environment into our designs while keeping the primary goal in mind.
DISCOVERY
We knew that King Sports Max wanted to focus on e-commerce, but we needed some more information from them in order to deliver a website that is not only functional but unique to them.
They have a great product, but without knowing their story, we’d be creating another generic e-commerce website, and that’s not we do or what King Sports Max wanted. So, we asked what makes them different, and for them, it is a dedication to the health of our planet.
As environmentalists, their mission is simple: to create and sell eco-friendly transportation alternatives to gas guzzling, greenhouse gas emitting vehicles. It is important for them to do their part to protect our environment so we can all continue to enjoy it.
With their mission in mind, we began conceptualizing ways that we could incorporate nature and the environment into our designs while keeping the primary goal in mind, being the sale of products, and we were invigorated to begin the strategy process.

UX STRATEGY
For the UX phase of the King Sports Max website redesign, we really focused on organizing content on the product detail page. Each product had a lot of images and copy we needed to squeeze in to the product details pages.
Bad product page experiences leave users scrolling through seemingly endless amounts of text or images before getting to the end of the page, so we made sure to organize the product detail pages in a way that keenly blends images and text and includes quick links to areas on the page that users would be most interested in like customer reviews or the Q&A section.
BUILD
King Sports Max only had a logo when they came to us. They didn’t have a defined brand guideline, colors, font types, or even product images, so we knew we needed to do a lot of the heavy lifting when it came to design. Of course, we always design all of websites from scratch, but some of our clients are able to provide guidance on designs. King Sports Max was not one of them.
So we decided to focus on their mission and to rely on images that reference the mission statement. We scoured stock photo sites for images of nature that also incorporated electronic transportation devices, which was no small order, but we were able to provide the imagery necessary to emphasize eco-friendly transportation products in both urban and natural environments.
In terms of development, we decided to utilize Magento 2, which offers a great starting point for e-commerce websites. With such a tight timeline, it was the best option for us. We were able to integrate our custom designs quickly and easily backed up by the security offered by Magento 2.
TEST & LAUNCH
With the dev environment complete, we went through a few rounds of testing to ensure everything was working properly.
With such a robust backend management system with dozens of products each with multiple color variations we needed to make sure all content was being pulled from the database and displayed on the frontend including featured product ares on the homepage, the complex and innovative filtering system on product listing pages, and the product details page. We also added some product reviews and tested the product Q&A process ensuring that questions, answers, and reviews all went through the site administrator for approval prior to displaying on the site.
With our testing complete, we turned the website over to the client to test. They edited and finalized the copy and added all their products to the website. With all their products on the site, they gave us the greenlight to launch the site. After reviewing King Sports Max’s analytics, we determined the time when the least amount of users were on the site and planned our launch accordingly to minimize downtime. After migrating the files to King Sports Max’s hosting environment, we pointed the domain and took the site live. Once the site was live we went through a final round of testing debugging any issues that came up during launch.
