OVERVIEW
GrowthStudio sits at the intersection of startups and scale – it was created to support early, middle, and late-stage emerging companies. Powered by established law firm Crowell & Moring, GrowthStudio offers a platform containing a valuable mix of business strategy and legal guidance, resources, insights, and events.
Crowell & Moring came to us with just an idea - no name, no branding - and we excitedly jumped in to help build everything from the ground up.
DISCOVERY
Crowell & Moring came to us with a brilliant idea – they wanted to set up a hub that would offer legal guidance and business strategy to emerging companies and the venture capital community. This idea carried an incredible amount of potential, and they needed our help to actualize it.
We jumped into a deep discovery with them and kicked things off by performing a competitive audit. We carefully studied what existed in the market already and noted where the biggest opportunities and gaps were. We dug into learning as much as we could about the vision for this online space and conducted comprehensive interviews with key stakeholders. We researched the heck out of potential sources for design and branding inspiration and created an expansive mood board to capture all of the creative directions we were considering.
One of the key focal points during our discovery process was to hone in on a name for this new online hub. Partnered with an award-winning copywriter who specializes in crafting brand narratives, we collaborated with the team from Crowell to iterate through hundreds of potential names. After rounds of iteration, we narrowed the list down to a handful, all of which needed to be rigorously cross-checked for existing trademarks or similar business organizations. “GrowthStudio” passed all of the verifications and resounded with meaning for the space we were building to help emerging companies find the valuable counsel that will help them grow.
UX STRATEGY
The selection of a name kicked off the second phase of this project – the strategy phase. During this phase, we took all the ideas and information we had collected from our competitive audit, interviews, and mood board, and distilled them down.
During this phase, we carefully planned out how to design and develop a space that would meet all of Crowell & Moring’s goals. We approached each page layout with intentionality and meticulously architected an experience that would delight website visitors.
Keeping in mind the main desires for the space, we structured the content across the site in a way that would be engaging for visitors, leading them on a journey as they explored all of the helpful resources available on the site and encouraging them to get in touch for more personalized guidance.
BUILD
With a solid strategy in place, it was time for the build! We got to do one of our favorite things – create a brand identity from the ground up – with GrowthStudio.
Our talented design team began with a color palette and logo exploration with the client. With intentionality driving every design decision, they crafted a color palette that was full of vibrant, life-giving greens and energetic blues that spoke to the innovative growth-focused mindset of GrowthStudio. Hand-crafted logo concepts depicting life and upward movement gave the GrowthStudio team several solid options to choose from. Collaborative iteration through our logo creation process helped us arrive at a final logo that is friendly, modern, and flourishing.
After the logo and color palette was in place, we jumped into designing the website experience. It’s always fun to see all of the planning and strategy come to life in front of your eyes as font styles, color palettes, and imagery are combined into user friend design patterns. The use of modern abstract patterns and gradients across the site, paired with lifestyle people-focused imagery resonates with those who would be looking for guidance in the start-up space. Strategically placed pops of color and a clear information hierarchy helps the eye to focus on what is most important content on the page.
Going hand and hand with design, we were also crafting the copy to be use across the site. Our copywriter skillfully wrote all of the copy in a tone that was straight-forward, optimistic, and elevating.
Once the designs were established, we moved into coding everything. We elected to pair our custom designs with the user-friendly content management system (CMS) WordPress. This allows the GrowthStudio team to self-manage the site after it’s launch to ensure the site is always kept up-to-date with fresh content. Our front-end development team took special care when coding the site to be responsive, to ensure visitors had an optimal experience on both desktop and mobile devices.
TEST & LAUNCH
Ensuring the site was built right was the focus during the next phase – testing the site. We tested the site thoroughly on multiple devices and browsers to find and fix any bugs before the site went live. In addition, we did a full check on all of the back-end coding to verify the site was ready for the GrowthStudio team to use.
After we completed our quality assurance checks on the site, we trained the GrowthStudio team on how to update content through the CMS, and gave them a chance to test and validate everything on their end. Once confirmed, the site was ready to go live.
We put together a detailed launch plan and on the scheduled date, followed our plan and took the site live!
